Description
WOODSIDE Sterling Co. (NY) 1896-1925. Very unusual shape and design. You see the round under plates all the time. I have never seen this hexagonal scrolled design before. Lenox (green mark 1906-1930) liners, with no noticeable gold loss. No chips or cracks. Overall very good used condition. We acquired this set in 2005 from a dealer who bought it from the estate of Evangeline Davey Smith (1911-2004). Her father, Martin L Davey, was 53rd governor of Ohio 1935-1939. A statement (see photos) is included that this set originally belonged to Gov. Davey, and passed to his daughter. We cannot guarantee this information, but the dates of the silver and Lenox do appear to line up with the dates of his life prior to his political career. Its quality and beauty separate it from similar sets, regardless of any connection to the former governor.
We include a bonus of 8 modern silverplate demitasse spoons, which compliment the cups, but are not original to this set.
