    Description:
    Khmer Empire, 14th to 16th century, in the style of Bayon.  A superb bronze cast depicting the four-armed Deity figure ‘Vishnu’, God of Creation, comfortably standing atop the shoulders of his vahana (vehicle) Lord Garuda, a divine eagle-like Sun bird and King of all birds, who is described as a Celestial being with wings, shown here in anthropomorphic form, half man and half bird, a human figure with wings standing on a square base with arms and wings outstretched, holding the destructive faces of evil, two demonic serpents, coiled around Garuda’s feet.

    Vishnu is shown holding the disc and the conch in his upper hands, and the earth and the club in his two lower hands, richly adorned in jewels, wearing a stylized sampot secured by a plain belt. Both figures with benign expressions, wear a conical headdress bound by inter-connected diadems.

    The sculpture has a superb verdigris patina, penetrating the surface of the bronze and mottled variations of encrusted soil deposits.
