    Description

Here is a stunning Gorham Mfg. Company 143 year old sterling silver mug.  It was gifted to a Josephine Cook by her Grandmother Tooker on January 1st, 1877.  It is a heavy weight piece and what really makes the mug standout is the banding on the rim of the cup and the amazing curved handle attached.  The base is garlanded and with two classical heads between the floral swags.  The heads are one Grecian woman facing a bearded male.  Perhaps the heads represent Hera and Zeus.
The applied and the engraved decorations are sharp and unworn.  The mug is in excellent shape and sits flat.  There are no dents, removals or repairs to the silver, only a couple of very tiny dings that are only noticeable from the inside of the mug.
The mug is 3-3/8" high x 2-3/4" wide without the handle.  The handle extends 1-3/8" from the body of mug.  The marks are pictured and indicate a manufacturing date of 1876.  The mug design is #1255.
The weight of the mug is 143 grams/4.6 troy ounces.
