Description
A Rare Tribal marking post sculpture from West Nepal, Late 19th to early 20th century. This marking post is locally known as a Maula, and traditionally they were placed to mark a spring, a trail or bridge, or the entrance to a village or area; or might also be found in a village shrine or temple. This particular piece shows some age and a long exposure to the elements, making it unique and interesting, a wonderful rustic beauty.Condition: The post is in a weathered condition. The crispness of the carvings, as well as some of the Stupa has partially eroded away. Though of course this aged character is precisely what defines its overall presence and gives it its unique character. Structurally it is strong and fully sound.
Dimensions: Overall 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches by 30.5 inches tall.
