    Description

    This cup, one in a series by the Louisville retailer and jeweler Merkley Kendrick, features the winner of the Kentucky Derby, and the year of the race, engraved on it's bottom.  This cup is for Affirmed, the triple crown winner from 1978.
    This julep cup is 3 1/2" tall and 2 7/8" in diameter at the top and 2 3/8" in diameter at the base.  Heavier than many cups, this one weighs 156 grams, or 5 troy ounces.
    This cup has three bands of decoration at the top and bottom rims.
    On the bottom, it is marked for Merkley Kendrick, since 1832,  Affirmed '78, with three crowns stamped below to signify winning the triple crown, and sterling.
