    Description

This is a very Unique  Woven Wicker Kuda Lumping Hobby-Horse Trance Dance Horse  from Java. This  trance dance hobby-horse is popular all over Central and East Java. In east Java, particularly in the Ponorogo region, the Kuda lumping trance dance is part of a larger dance procession featuring a mask made of a tiger's head and peacock feathers. The hobby horses would be ridden by  boys who traditionally are kept by the Warok who is believed to have many esoteric powers and plays the tiger mask. In Central Java the Kuda lumping dance stands by itself and often is part of a troupe of traveling street entertainers and magicians. The colors of the enamel paint used on this particular kuda lumping appears to suggest that this was made and used in the 1980's.  The workmanship of the bamboo suggests that it was a professional bamboo worker who made it. This is  wonderful and unique item to add to your collection or home.
