Swedish Solid Silver Brandy Taster with lion Handle & Ring Date Marked Carl Herdin 1841
Presented is a solid silver brandy or wine taster marked for silver made in Falun Sweden hallmarked for silver by Carl Herdin, date marked silver made 1841. It is marked for at least 830 fine Swedish silver; American standard sterling silver is 925 fine so there is slightly less silver in this alloy. I have placed a picture of my research in the photos above. This great piece has a wild man or lion thumb on one side and a fan with a ring dangle hanging below it with decorated gadroon motif around the basin on a raised base. It has a great patina of use with excellent pin-prick monograms; a very light one on the back of the handle of
HEJ APD
and one on the side under the rim of ELJ or ELF. It has several dents and dings as well as a few repairs near handles and some scratches from use and care. It is an interesting item for the collector of silver, breweriana items and even salts. It is a great piece of history for any number of uses and makes an interesting topic of conversation.

Marks
: marked for .830 fine silver made in Falun Sweden with a date mark of L4 for silver made in 1841.
Condition
: dents and dings and at least two patch repairs, out of round base, two pin prick monograms, some scratches from use and care.
