    Description

You are bidding on a rare (un-scored and ink-mark free! No writing of any kind!) high school basketball program from the boys hoops tournament played in Edwardsville, Illinois, on December 27, 28 and 29, 1971 during the 1971-72 season.
    This program from the 4
    th
Annual Edwardsville Holiday Tournament featured the then-undefeated and highly ranked Lincoln HS Railsplitters prep basketball team, along with fifteen other Illinois high schools – the Bloomington H.S. Raiders, the Cahokia Comanches, the Bethalto Civic Memorial Eagles, the Decatur MacArthur Generals, the East St. Louis Flyers (coached by legendary prep coach Pick Dehner, the Edwardsville Tigers, the Elk Grove Grenadiers, the Gillespie Miners, the Highland Bulldogs, the Jerseyville Panthers, the Litchfield Panthers, the Odin Eagles, the Roxana Shells, the Staunton Bulldogs and the Triad Knights. The tournament featured several outstanding players, including All-State center Norman Cook of Lincoln, Herbert Nobles of East St. Louis, Dan Rutledge of Bloomington and the Ahart brothers (Rick and Greg) of Edwardsville, just to name a few.
After winning this tournament, the Lincoln Railers, coached by another Illinois high school coaching legend Duncan Reid (who gained much of his fame later at Rock Island HS), were ranked second in the Class AA state-wide polls behind the eventual state champion Thornridge HS Falcons.
The program (52 pages including the front and back covers) features great team photographs of all sixteen tournament teams with the players’ names, numbers and other information, as well as the names of each team’s cheerleaders, tournament records, ads of local businesses and much more!
The program comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. It has a few minor creases, but the only thing that detracts from its appearance is some white marks on the back cover where it appears some of the blue paper cover may have been stuck on something and the blue paper was pulled off leaving the white paper underneath. Even so, I would consider the program to be in good to very good condition. There are no loose pages, and you can tell it has been handled with care over the last 48 years.
The program comes in a plastic sleeve with board backing.
