Description
Offered .......a rare Arthur Stone Arts & Crafts sterling silver child's cup with bunny rabbits.
The cup is marked with
A Stone STERLING
with the chaser's hammer maker's mark that was used by Arthur Stone c1906-1937. It also is stamped under that with the
U
craftsman's mark for Earle H. Underwood, who was active with Stone from 1921-27. Arthur Stone was known as the Dean of American Silversmiths. He continued to focus on hand executed craftsmanship in an era of mass production.
The child's cup features 8 embossed rabbits and bunnies. A plate & bowl in the same design sold in 2018 for 65 at Skinner. I have been unable to find a cup like this one either sold or for sale.
The cup is about 3 inches in diameter without the handle by 2 5/8 inches tall and weighs a substantial 5.7 troy ounces. The cup has 3 shallow dents at the base below the rabbits and some dark oxidation marks on the interior. Otherwise, it is in very good condition.
