    Description

Pair of Asahi Shoten Co. Solid Sterling (Japanese 950/1000) Silver Wine or Water Goblets. Hallmarked on the underside of the base with “Rising Sun” (Period Correct Hallmark for Asahi Shoten Co., Limited) above “STERLING” above 950.
These goblets measure 6 inches tall, with a top rim diameter of 3 1/16 inches, a base diameter of 213/16 inches, and respective weights of 109.3 grams (whole) and 106.6 grams (separated) for a combined weight of 215.9 grams of 950/1000 silver. The whole goblet has two dents (13/16 x 7/16 and 15/16 x 1/16 inch); the separated goblet also has two dents (7/16 x 5/8 and 5/16 x 1/8-inch).
I believe the separated goblet could be repaired by a silversmith capable of making silver solder joints. The goblets are not engraved or monogrammed.
The Asahi Shoten Company, Limited has been making silver in Japan for 130 years. Almost all Japanese silver pieces are 950 parts of silver to 50 parts of copper.
After World War II the company located in Yokohama, Japan did considerable business with the U.S. Navy Supply Depot.
Asahi Shoten Co Ltd regularly used the Rising Sun hallmarks as well as "STERLING 950" most likely, at first, unaware that, in most countries using the British Standard defined “Sterling” as 925, not 950 parts of silver per 1000 parts of material.
Many of the pieces were purchased at Base Exchanges and brought back to the United States of America.
The company has more recently opened a retail sales location in the Imperial Hotel, located in Tokyo, Japan and continues to be a sought-after producer of fine silver.
Goblets guaranteed to be BETTER (950/1000) than SOLID Sterling Silver (aka 925/1000 or .925) defined as 925 parts of pure silver to 75 parts of other metal (usually copper) per 1000 parts of material. As an example, today’s spot silver price is .42 per troy ounce, so a troy ounce of .925 silver is worth .59 while a troy ounce of .950 silver is worth .20 or slightly more.
Photos are considered to be a part of the description.  If you have any questions, please ask them before bidding or buying.

I am not in a rush to receive payment. If as a buyer/bidder, you wish to delay payment for up to 30 days in order to take advantage of combined shipping at reduced cost, please let me know.  The maximum amount of time I will wait for payment is 30 days and I will invoice on the 28th day after the first item purchased, if buyer has not yet requested an invoice.  There are certain postal fee break points that make economic sense for both the buyer and seller.  With silver weight is never the issue after 15 ounces has been exceeded, but volume is, so breakpoints are in space available in priority flat rate mailers (small, medium, large fixed rate priority and regional A & B). After these volume limits are exceeded USPS, UPS and FED EX have about the same rates on ground shipping, but package delivery takes longer than priority mail.
Combined shipping is provided at reduced rate on multiple item purchases, but you must request an invoice total before paying. Items will be packaged well to prevent damage during shipment. In the off chance that your shipment is received damaged, please notify me immediately upon receipt by providing photos of the shipment as received and of any damaged item.  Please retain all packaging material until damage claim is settled.
I have sold my large Victorian home and have downsized to a much smaller place.  Therefore, over the next few months, I will be selling my large sterling silver collection at true auction with bids starting at {{detail_product_description}}.99, no reserve.  My silver is in storage, so I plan to go the storage site and grab a box or two for listing.  As those items sell, I will get another box or two and repeat.  I plan to list 3 or 4 items per day until my collection is liquidated. If I run out of storage room on listed/sold items I will have to slow down listings, but I feel payment within 30 days is most likely the sweet spot for successfully accomplishing this project.
Please save me as a seller, check back often to see new listings.
