Ceramics was first made in Southeast Asia since 3,000 B.C., mostly in red earthenware and it was not until 900 A.D. that Khmer started to make the glazed ware. During estimated 1500B.C. to 100 A.D., there was unique type of earthenware in black color, being made in the western area of Cambodia near boarder with Thailand. The black earthenware was decorated with lines or curvy lines and fired at slightly higher temperature than the red earthenware, thus becoming stronger.
